PENN STATE’S YANIC KONAN NIEDERHAUSER MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST-ROUND NBA DRAFT PICK | JUNE 25, 2025

Yanic Konan Niederhauser, a Swiss basketball player, made history by becoming the first Penn State player ever selected in the first round of the NBA Draft. The Los Angeles Clippers chose him with the 30th overall pick.

Niederhauser represented Switzerland at the youth national team level and began his college career at Northern Illinois before transferring to Penn State. In his one season with the Nittany Lions, he earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors.

His first-round selection marks a historic milestone for Penn State basketball, as no player from the program had ever been drafted in the first round during the modern NBA Draft era. He is also the highest-drafted Penn State player since Jesse Arnelle was taken in 1955.

Born and raised in Fribourg, Switzerland, Niederhauser’s journey from Switzerland to the NBA is a testament to his talent, work ethic, and determination.
